Photographs of Red Cloud and Principal Chiefs of Dacotah Indians

Published 1872
SHOW MORE

This is a photograph book, of images of Native Americans. The cover of the book says, "Photographs of Red Cloud & his Braves" However the interior title page says "Photographs of Red Cloud and Principal Chiefs of Dacotah Indians", it is a series of 31 photographs of Native Americans of the Dacotah tribes. The photographs were taken by Alexander Gardner, for the "Trustees of the Blackmore Museum, Salisbury, England." The last picture is of Blackmore shaking hands with Red Cloud. The photographs were taken in May 1872, at Washington D.C.

A similar collection to this called "Ogallalla Sioux" has many of the same images, but however several differences are present in both editions. Instead of using left and right I will use the lower case 'o' for face on, 'd', and 'b' to indicate which way the person is facing. The biggest difference between this book and "Ogallalla Sioux" is that the full images for most of the photographs is used, while in this book the edges have been cropped off to make ovals of each image.
